LISTEN: 911 Call Released After Pilot Passes Out on Alaska Airlines Flight
Authorities have released audio of a 911 call from an Alaska Airlines plane where the pilot lost consciousness mid-flight. The co-pilot was able to land the plane safely in Portland, Oregon. The flight was heading from L.A. to Seattle.
A doctor on the flight was able to give medical attention to the pilot after he fainted in the cockpit.
Doctors say the pilot was suffering from food poisoning or the flu. He's doing much better now. It's actually the second recent incident involving an
Alaska Airlines pilot. A co-pilot fainted due to the flu and the plane made an emergency landing just last week.
The airline says its pilots have to undergo medical checkups every six months, and co-pilots once a year, calling it "bizarre" that these freak incidents happened so close together.
