The White House confirmed today that President Obama is shutting down his jobs council after two years and only four meetings. The unemployment rate fell from 9 percent to 7.8 percent over the two year period.

Aides say that it was always intended to be shut down after two years and that the president will continue to consult the business community on ways to create jobs.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell reacted, saying, “The president can make any excuse he wants, but it’s not going to help Americans find jobs. One thing the president could have done instead of wasting so much time blaming others, would have been to convene the jobs council he created amidst so much fanfare. He hasn’t done that for more than a year.”
