Activists are rallying on the National Mall in D.C. to push for tighter gun control measures in the wake of the Newtown school shooting. Molly Henneberg reported that one the main goals of those participating in the march on Washington is for a ban on assault weapons.

One man in the crowd said, “When those parents lost their children, everyone in America cried for them. And it’s time, like the sign says here, enough is enough.

There’s no reason for this to happen. You don’t hunt with semi-automatic weapons.”

Another woman said that people should agree on the assault weapons issue. She added, “I think that my students have the right to feel safe in school.”

There was a smaller pro-Second Amendment gathering on Saturday at the Mall. Henneberg reported that the people involved support armed guards in schools and believe more gun laws won’t prohibit people with mental health issues from committing violent acts.
