Vice President Joe Biden delivered remarks at the Inaugural Luncheon. He told the room, “I always enjoyed this lunch more than anything we did in the Capitol.”

For the 36 years he served in the Senate, the vice president has attended the lunch several times in honor of past presidents. He said, “It really is the place where we get together in a way unlike any other time. […] Sometimes it’s fleeting, but it’s a sense that maybe we can really, really begin to work together.”

Laughter erupted in the room when

Vice President Biden toasted Sen. Charles Schumer (D-NY), who mistakenly thought he was toasting the president. “I raise my glass to a man who never, never, never operates out of fear, only operates out of confidence and a guy – I’m toasting you, Chuck,” VP Biden quipped.

Sen. Schumer heads the congressional committee overseeing the inauguration.
