Lawmakers in Spring City, Utah are working on a resolution to encourage everyone living in the town to own a gun and to take gun training.

Neil Sorensen, a Spring City councilman, joined America’s Newsroom Thursday morning and said that he initially proposed the legislation to make “Spring City a safer and better place to be.”

In the wake of the Sandy Hook and Aurora, Colorado mass shootings, the resolution got unanimous support by the city council.

Sorensen believes it’ll make the 1,000 residents safer, saying, “I definitely think criminals would think twice before they do a home invasion or a crime in Spring City.”

“I have a right and a responsibility to protect myself, my family, and the community and I feel this is the best way I know how to do it,” he concluded.
