Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is moving forward with a number of Senate Democrats to invoke the nuclear option. That would end the filibuster in the Senate and allow members to defeat amendments by a simple majority vote rather than the 60 votes needed in the Senate right now. It was only a few years ago that Sen. Reid was calling the filibuster “part of the fabric of this institution we call the Senate.”

Syndicated columnist Charles Krauthammer said on Special Report, “Of all the gin joints, in all the towns, in all the world, this issue is the one that brings out the purist hypocrisy.”

“You hear the same arguments but different teams arguing depending on

who’s the majority, who’s the minority,” Krauthammer said.

He went on to say, “Look, I could live with it or without it. But I do think it is just highly amusing and entertaining that you get all the thundering argument on either side.” And either way, Krauthammer continued, “I think the republic would survive.”
