Word broke overnight that Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak is stepping down. Leland Vittert reported live from Jerusalem on the shocking news. According to Vittert, Barak is trying to leave office on a good note, as his popularity has dwindled over the past couple of years. After his handling of the conflict with Gaza last week, Barak’s popularity was up, but it still didn’t look as though he would garner many votes in the upcoming January 22 election.

Barak says he’s retiring to focus on his personal life.
