New Study Shows a Losing Battle Against Diabetes
A new study shows that half of people living with diabetes don’t know they have it. The International Diabetes Federation expects that the number of people with diabetes to jump from 371 million in 2012 to 552 million in 2030 worldwide.
Dr. Marc Siegel added statistics for the United States where 26 million people have diabetes. Seven million more are undiagnosed and 79 million have pre-diabetes. 92 percent of diabetics
have type 2, meaning they have insulin resistance. This type is lifestyle based, so Dr. Siegel's simple tip for people is to exercise and cut out those Twinkies in order to help reduce the risk.
Dr. David Samadi agreed that people need to replace bread, pasta and sugars with fruit and vegetables in addition to regular exercise.
