Earlier today, Maj. Gen. Bob Scales and Mark Dubowitz of the Foundation for Defense of Democracies debated what the current role of the president should be as violence escalates between Israel and Gaza.

Scales offered his own insight, saying that right now the role of the U.S. is to be a mediator. "What the president is trying to do is act as a mediator between both the Israeli and the

Egyptian leadership," he said, adding that he'll try to convince the nations that military action by any of the three - Egypt, Israel or Gaza - would not be beneficial to any.

Dubowitz, however, disagrees. "I don't think the role of the president is to be a mediator between Israel and Hamas; "I think the role of the president is to be a strong supporter of Israel."
