This morning, Dave Briggs was live in Staten Island, New York, amid the devastation wrought last week by Hurricane Sandy. Nearly 3 million residents remain without electricity as temperatures dropped near freezing overnight.

Briggs talked to 69-year-old MTA worker Michael Gatti, who shared his emotional story about the moment the storm hit his house. He said he was at work as Sandy came ashore, but that his sons were home when the huge wave of water swept through the neighborhood.

One of his sons was swept away in his car, but the other son was able to pull him out as the waters rose.
