New York City’s Mayor Michael Bloomberg is pushing mothers to breastfeed with a new program called Latch on NYC. The mayor, who has been deemed the “nanny” for his ban on large sugary drinks, is starting this program come September to stop moms from using formula. While the scientific benefits of breastfeeding are great, some women choose to use formula for various personal reasons.

In New York City, mothers who want formula will still be able to receive

it, but not as freely as in the past. Hospitals will keep infant formula in secure storerooms or in locked boxes and every time a bottle is requested, a staff member will explain to the mom why breastfeeding is better for her baby.
