Congressman Trent Franks is planning to introduce controversial new legislation, called the Prenatal Nondiscrimination Act, which would outlaw abortions on the basis of race and gender.

Franks said, “This is something where 85-90 percent of Americans believe that it’s wrong to abort a little baby because the little baby is black or Hispanic instead of white. And they believe it is wrong to abort a little girl

because she’s a little girl instead of a boy. This is not really rocket science. This is not something we should struggle with as a nation.”

A number of pro-choice groups have joined together and written a letter to Congress saying that Franks is an anti-choice extremist. The letter reads in part, “Instead of addressing health disparities and ensuring accessible and culturally competent medical care for all women, the Prenatal Nondiscrimination Act will further isolate and stigmatize some women from exercising their fundamental human right to make and implement decisions about their reproductive lives.”
